A specialist engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join their team in a full-time capacity in a choice of offices in New Zealand. The firm focuses on dam projects and other large-scale water-related structures and is expanding due to increased demand across domestic and international markets.
This senior position involves leading and contributing to complex structural engineering projects, particularly those involving existing infrastructure. The successful candidate will be expected to provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead project teams and ensure high-quality delivery
- Engage with stakeholders to meet technical and compliance standards
- Apply best practices in design, documentation, and project management
- Drive innovation and continuous improvement in engineering processes
- Support strategic development of the structural engineering service offering
Ideal Candidate Profile:
- Degree, preferably at Masters level in Structural or Civil Engineering (or equivalent)
- Ideally Chartered status with a recognized professional body
- 15+ years of experience in structural engineering, ideally involving water infrastructure and dams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in structural modelling software
- Experience in seismic design and assessment
- Excellent communication skills and ability to represent the firm in technical discussions
- Willingness to travel as needed
